Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to apply the professional principles of purchasing to one (1) or more assigned areas within the within the Purchasing Division of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office. Functional areas include purchasing and contracts. Employees within the purchasing area acquire supplies, services, and goods at a competitive price and efficient manner. Employees within the contract area provide administrative coordination of contracts with regard to Broward Sheriff Office’s contractual procedures to ensure continuity of services and products through contracts.  Employees perform moderately complex to highly complex/technical purchasing functions. Position may oversee Purchasing Agents and provide guidance to subordinate staff in ensuring that procedures, systems and purchasing programs meet departmental standards and assists subordinates in resolving issues that fall outside of routine operating procedures.
 
Position is responsible for independently preparing competitive solicitations which include developing detailed technical specifications resulting in annual contracts for large volume purchases/services and for equipment requisitions. Position is responsible for independently preparing and processing formal various types of solicitations, reviewing methods of acquisition; and preparing purchase orders that comply with resulting contract(s) and related documents. Position provides administrative and technical support for the ERP System. Performs related work as directed.
