Job Description:
SUMMARY
This is results-driven supervisory and leadership work directing employees engaged in the operation and maintenance of power plant electric generating facilities.
Depending on the area of assignment, positions allocated to this classification report to a Production Manager or Production Leader and work under general supervision. Work in this classification is distinguished from other classes by its supervisory authority.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Depending on area of assignment:
Oversees the safe start-up, shut-down, and optimal operation of turbine generator units and related boiler and auxiliary equipment in accordance with operating policy and manufacturer’s instructions.
Performs hands-on work in mechanical maintenance and/or instrumentation/controls/ electrical work at the Kelly Plant.
Develops work plans for preventive maintenance, work orders and outages and assigns work to subordinates.
Monitors the operation of all power plant equipment and systems.
Monitors the operation of all air quality control system and process equipment at the Deerhaven Plant.
Prepares accurate, detailed and complete records and reports in a timely manner.
Reviews and certifies employee work in Progression-Through-Training proficiency.
Performs timely performance evaluations for the employees he/she supervises.
Plans work activities to prevent injury and property damage. Develops, maintains and enforces production, safety and work standards.
Insures employees under his/her supervision have the necessary training and equipment to safely perform assigned duties.
Investigates and reports unsafe or improper conduct of employees.
Initiates discipline or recommend discipline of employees in accordance with applicable bargaining agreements and City policies.
Keeps accurate and complete labor, material and equipment records and prepares other required reports.
Analyzes and evaluates work activities from a standpoint of cost, efficiency, productivity, and established budgetary guidelines.
Responds to emergency situations.
May be required to work rotating shifts.
Attends work on a continuous and regular basis.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Deerhaven Plant: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience in power production operation, including two (2) years as a Power Plant Journeyman Operator or one year as a Control Room Operator; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Kelly Plant: Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and five (5) years of experience in power production operation or maintenance, including two (2) years at a journey level, must be Production Technician qualified; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Employees in this classification must meet the minimum requirements established in the Supervisory Progression-Through-Training Program.
